MARRS, WILLIAM
William Marrs, 86, farmer of the Ash Grove Pike died at his home Sunday following an illness of pneumonia. He is survived by seven children, George and Charles Marrs, Mrs. Al Brumfield and Foley Marrs of Fayette County, Mrs. Edward West, Mrs. Garnett and Clarence Marrs of Jessamine County. The funeral services were at the residence this morning. The body was taken to Lexington for burial.

MARSHALL, MISS CARRIE
Miss Carrie Marshall, 66 years old, died Sunday morning, March 16 (1930) at the home of her sister, Mrs. Charles Shea, 507 East High Street, Lexington, following a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late John A. and Pauline Rutherford Marshall and was born and reared in Jessamine County. Miss Marshall is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Shea, Miss Lula Marshall, of Lexington and Mrs. W.M. Phelps, of Wilmore; two brothers, Charles M. and Jasper Marshall, both of Lexington. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Ashland Avenue Baptist Church. The Rev. Clarence W. Walker, pastor of the church officiated. Burial was in the Lexington cemetery.

MARTIN, EDWARD G.
Edward G. Martin, a former Nicholasville businessman and city council member, died Tuesday at his home at 2121 Nicholasville Road in Lexington. He was 86. Mr. Martin ran a Ben Franklin Store in Nicholasville from 1932 to 1956, and during that time served on the town's city council. He also was a past president of the Nicholasville Chamber of Commerce.

Elder Richard Martin, Jr., 66, of 308 Imperial Point in Nicholasville, husband of Reatha Jean Shaw Martin, died Tues. Sept 12., 2000 at Central Baptist Hospital. A native of Fayette Co., he was the son of the late Richard Martin Sr. and Cleona Crawley Martin. He was the minister of Camp Nelson Baptist Church for 27 years and a former employee of the Fayette Co. Police Dept. and Carl Price Cycle Shop. In additon to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard Dale and Teresa Martin of Nicholasville; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Tommy Cooster Harris, Susie and Stacey Johnson, all of Nicholasville and Crystal and Gary Harris of Lexington; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a sister, Donna Brunker of Cynthiana. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Friday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home with Elder James Baker and Elder Gary Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Gary Joseph Harris, Richard Franklin Harris, Kristopher Thomas Harris, Jerry Gilbert, Beck Corman and Tommy Gilbert. Honorary pallbearers will be John Houk, Bill Mink, Alvin Harris. Visitation will be 6-9 pm on Thursday.

Nannie Lee Gill Mastin, 92, of Broadway in Nicholasville, the widow of Dee Mastin, died Sept. 30, 2000 at her home after a brief illness. She was a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church. She is survived by 7 children, Robert E. Isaac, Ray Isaac, Bruce Mastin, Juanita Frederick, Fay Reed, Cindy Huff, Lena Hazel Bruner; 36 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and several neices and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 4 brothers. Funeral services were held at 1:30pm at Betts and West Funeral Home with the Rev. Bennie Baker and the Rev. Jerry Redmon officiating. Burial followed at Maple Grove Cemetery. Bearers were Randy Mastin, Jr., William Dunaway, Jr., Wayne Bruner, David Huff, Calvin Isaac and Ronnie Wash. Honorary Bearers were William Dunaway Sr., Raymond Isaac and Randy Mastin.

MCAFEE, GEORGE SPENCER
News of the death (May 6, 1927) of George Spencer McAfee of Atlanta, Georgia, was received here. Mr. McAfee was 75 years old and a member of the International Typographical Union. He was also a veteran of the Spanish-American War. He was a native of Jessamine County. The body will be buried in Atlanta.

MCKENZIE, JAMES M.
McKenzie - After an illness of several months, Jas. M. McKenzie died (April 1905) at his home in Nicholasville, aged 65 years. The deceased was born and reared in Jessamine county and was a man of strong convictions, doing what he believed was right regardless of the opinion of any man. Mr. McKenzie was for four years a soldier in the Confederate army, being a member of Breckinridge’s division, 2nd Kentucky Company B, and was said to be a faithful and brave soldier. Some months ago the deceased united with the M. E. Church, South, and had no dread of the grave. He leaves two brothers, Will, of Versailles, and John, who resides in Mississippi.
During his long illness, his faithful wife was always to be found at his bedside doing all she could to make the approaching end as comfortable as possible. The funeral services were conducted from the home Tuesday afternoon by Dr. W. F. Taylor, assisted by Rev. F. W. Noland, after which the remains were interred at Maple Grove cemetery, four of the comrades of the deceased acting as pall-bearers.
Card of Thanks - Mrs. McKenzie wishes to express her thanks to her friends and neighbors for the kindness and sympathy shown her in her trouble during the sickness and death of her husband.

MCKENZIE, JOHN H.
McKenzie - John H. McKenzie who fell from the third story of the Armstrong Hotel, Shelbyville, Monday night, March 11, in his sleep, died from the injuries at his home in Versailles, March 17 (1907). Tetanus developed Saturday and was the immediate cause of Mr. McKenzie’s death. The deceased was one of the foremost citizens of Versailles. He was senior member of the firm of J. H. McKenzie & Son, and was also salesman for Central Kentucky for the international Harvester Co. He was born in Jessamine county, March 16, 1842. He served throughout the Civil War in the Confederate army, and was a member of the famous Orphan Brigade. Mr. McKenzie located in Versailles after the close of the war. He served for a great many years as a member of the Board of Council of Versailles, and was also mayor of the city for several terms. Mr. McKenzie’s wife died five years ago. He leaves one son, Edward McKenzie. He was a brother of the late Jas. M. McKenzie, of Nicholasville. Funeral services were held at St. Leo's Catholic church, Monday afternoon. Fev. Fr. Geo. C. Bealer officiating. The remains were interred in the Versailles Cemetery.

MESSICK, CHARLES
Mr. Charles Messick, aged about twenty-five years, died at Liberty, Mo., Tuesday, February 26, 1901, of consumption. The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Messick, who are well known in Jessamine County, and a nephew of Mrs. J. S. C. Bronaugh.

MESSICK, MATHEW
Died, at Glenwood Springs, Col., of cholera morbus, Mathew Messick, brother of Mrs. M. A. Dennis (Donnis?), Nicholasville. The deceased was born in Jessamine, July 4, 1837. He left here in 1879 and went to Colorado Springs, where he resided until 1885 where he cast his lot with the early pioneers of Glenwood Springs. The ledger, a weekly newspaper published in the town where Mr. Messick lived and died, contains the following notice of the deceased: “He stood high, in the estimation of the community and his life and character were known to have been exemplary. He was, at one time, justice of the peace and gave entire satisfaction in rendering unbiased decisions. He was a member of the Christian Church and was one of it’s founders and main supporters here. Mr. Messick leaves a wife and four children-two sons and two daughters-to mourn the sudden separation. His death was very sudden and scarcely anticipated even by his close attendants. A large number of friends followed the body to it's last resting place. The family has the sympathy of the entire community.” (date of death not available)

MESSICK, TILFORD
Mr. Tilford Messick died at thehome of his brother, John Messick at Liberty, Mo. Dec. 27, 1902, of cancer of the stomach. He was a native of Jessamine and brother to Mr. R. F. Spears. The deceased was married 27 years ago to Miss Farra, of Fayette county and lived for many years in Nebraska.

MIDDLETON,WILLIAM
William Middleton, aged 97 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lewis Hutchinson, near Jessamine Station Wednesday, June 2, and was buried Thursday in Garrard couny. Mr Middleton’s death was due to infirmities of age. He was said to be the oldest citizen in Jessamine county.

MILES, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
At his home one mile east of Nicholasville, on the Sulphur Well turnpike, Mr. Benjamin Franklin Miles died on Wednesday, July 4, 1894, of dropsy, aged 77 years. The deceased had been in ill health for a year from a complication of diseases. Mr. Miles was born and reared in Jessamine, near the farm where he resided at the time of his death. He was the son of William Miles and Francis Hudson Miles, both of whom died in Marion County, Mo. at an advanced age. Mr. Miles married Miss Mary Jane Welch, Sept. 29, 1840, who died May 25, 1871. She was a sister of Dr. S. D. Welch, of this county.

MILLER, CHARLES MARION
Charles Marion Miller, a well-known retired Jessamine County farmer, died yesterday at his home at 1631 Beaumont Road. He was 87. Miller was an honorary member of the Jessamine County Fair Board at his death. He had been an active member of that board for many years, from the time the fair was established.

MILLER, LLOYD
Lloyd Miller, 68 of Hoxie, Ark., husband of Jean Duke Miller, died Sat., Aug 19, 2000 at St. Bernard�s Hospital in Jonesboro. A native of Nicholasville, he lived in Nicholasville and Lexington before moving to Hoxie. A Korean War vet, he was retired from the Air Force and also served in the Navy. He was also a retired Lexington Postal employee. In additon to his wife, survivors include two sons, Howard W. Miller of Boynton Beach, Fla. and Heath E. Miller of Hoxie; two brothers, Bobby Miller of Lexington, and Lamar Miller of Nicholasville and one sister Maxine Carter of Nicholasville. Funeral services were held on Tuesday Aug 22, in the House Gregg Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge, Ark., with the Rev. Glenn Chadwick officiating. Burial followed in Lawrence Memorial Park in Walnut Ridge. Pallbearers were Howard Miller, Heath Miller, Shawn Parrish, Charles Helm, Junior Taylor and Sonny Bilbrey.

Mrs. Emily Jane Milward, widow of the late J. C. Milward, aged 85 years, died at her residence, the home of her daughter, the widow of David C. Frost, No. 415 West Third Street, Lexington, after an illness of several weeks, death being due to infirmities of old age. Mrs. Milward is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Frost, with whom she lived and one son, H. L. Milward.

MITCHELL, CHARLES S.
Charles S. Mitchell, aged 59 years, died at his home in Lexington, Saturday, Oct. 7, 1916. His death was due to paralysis following a protracted illness. He is survived by a wife, Mrs. Laura Waller Mitchell, two children, Walter and Frances, two sisters, Mrs. James McConathy and Miss Emma Mitchell, Lexington, and two brothers, A. P. Mitchell, of Union Mills and F. F. Mitchell, of Trenton, Todd County. Mr. Mitchell was a native of Jessamine and well known here where he was formerly engaged in the hardware business with Luther Davis, and, at one time, a member of the Board of Council of Nicholasville. The deceased was descended from one of the early families of the Spears neighborhood. His father, Geo. S. Mitchell, was a successful and substantial citizen and farmer, and served as magistrate from the Marble Creek neighborhood for several years. The funeral took place from the residence in Lexington, Monday, at 2:30 o’clock, conducted by Rev. J. W. Porter, of Lexington, and Rev. B. F. Swindler, of East Hickman church. The pall bearers were J. E. Phelps, J. L. Waller, and James A., Charles, Joseph H and Howard G. McCunathy of Lexington, and the interment was in the family lot in Lexington cemetery.

MITCHELL, FRANKLIN C.
Franklin C. Mitchell, 68, of Nicholasville, the husband of Ann Sexton Mitchell, died Monday. He was born on July 19, 1933, the son of the late Henry Mitchell Jr. and Christeen Miller Mitchell. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Frankie and Henry Mitchell; two daughters Janet Adams and June Smith, of Nicholasville and a mother-in-law, Emma Sexton. Burial was in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.

MOORE, CHARLES
Charles Moore, who had been a real estate businessman in Central Kentucky for many years, died of a heart attack yesterday at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. Moore, of 1201 South Main Street in Nicholasville, was 80. Moore built houses in many of Lexington’s major subdivisions and helped develop several shopping centers over the years. He also was instrumental in the building of homes on Nicholasville’s south side.

Mrs. Sarah Moore has received a message stating the death of her son, Clinton Moore, at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, February 1, (1927) of influenza. Mr. Moore was a native of Jessamine County and resided here until a few years ago. Besides his mother, he is survived by his widow; four brothers, J. W., R. D., Ben, and R. H. Moore of Nicholasville; four sisters, Mrs. William Curry, Mrs. George Lawson of Kaufesville, Kansas, Mrs. C. A. Arnold of Richmond, and Mrs. F. C. Weick of Nicholasville. The body was buried in Madison, Wisconsin.

Mrs. Susan E. Moore, aged 77, died Tuesday morning, January 14 (1930), of pneumonia, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kate Wallman on the Hagerby’s Mill Road. The deceased is survived by eight children, Arthur of Covington; Homer, of Enid, Okla.; Guy, of Lexington; Strawder and Rufus, of Detroit; John, of Nicholasville; Mrs. Sam Hager, of Fayette County. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 from the residence, conducted by Rev. E. E. Snoddy and Ward Russell. Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Josiah Moores, 73 years old, of South Elkhorn, died at his home Saturday, April 26, (1913) after a protracted illness of tuberculosis. He was a member of the South Elkhorn Church and married Miss Elizabeth Schrivner, of Lexington. He is survived by his wife, four daughters and seven sons, who are Mrs. Milton Barker, of Athens; Mrs. J. A. Todd, of Richmond; Mrs. R. B. Smithers, of Athens; Mrs. D. P. Forney, of Lexington; James A. Moores, of Richmond; Reuben Moores, of Bloomfield; Harry Moores, of Athens, and Jerah, Robert, Marshall and Shelby Moores, all of South Elkhorn. The funeral services were held at the South Elkhorn Church, Monday.

Valiera Teater Moores, 73, Campbell, California, widow of William Moores, died Sunday, (Sept. 18, 1983) at Westgate Convalescent Hospital, in San Jose, California, after a lengthy illness. She was formerly of Jessamine County, and was the daughter of the late Robert H. and Harriett Agee Teater. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Newton (Ila) McDonough, Marietta, Ga., three grandchildren, Mrs. Peter (Susan) Zimmermann, San Francisco, California, Mrs. Timothy (Donna) Hurley, Kodiak, Alaska, Nancy Vinton, Santa Rosa, California, great-grandson, Devin James Hurley, Kodiak, Alaska; a sister, Mrs. Waldon (Ada) Masters, one brother, Fred Teater, both of Nicholasville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial service will be held at the Little Hickman Christian Church on Saturday, September 24, at 1:00 p.m. Eulogy will be given by a great nephew, Hank Penrode. The family request in lieu of flowers a contribution be made to the American Cancer Society in her honor.

Katherine Morris, 81, of Edinborough Lane in Indianapolis, Ind, formerly of Nicholasville, the widow of Robert Morris, died Dec. 18, 2000. She was a retired employee of Lucent Tech, formerly Western Electric in Ind. She was born June 27, 1919, the daughter of the late Joe H. and Lucy Richardson Yarnell. She is survived by a daughter in law, Debra Harmon of Indianapolis; 3 grandchildren, Gretchen Warner, James R. Morris and Danielle Bell; 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. MOSELEY, GEORGE S.
Mr. George S. Moseley, one of Jessamine’s most respected and honored citizens, died at his home near Keene, October 25, 1900, after an illness of about five weeks. Mr. Moseley was born and reared in this county, his birth place being almost within a stone's throw of where he died. He was born July 14, 1822. Mr. George S. Moseley was a born gentleman. Courtesy was to him as natural as breathing. In all the dealings of a long business life, it was never darkened by suspicion. He bore his last illness with a great deal of patience and expressed himself as being perfectly ready and willing to die-having obtained full salvation during his sickness. The deceased leaves a wife, aged 74 and six children; Mrs. I. W. Wilson, Mt. Sterling; W. G. and G. B. Moseley, Mrs. E. C. Savage and Mrs. J. B. Smither. Also two brothers and two sisters-Ephraim and Edward Moseley, Mrs. Elizabeth Smith and Mrs. Clay McTyre. The funeral services were conducted from the late residence last Saturday morning by Rev. E. C. Savage, assisted by W. Moseley Eldridge.

MOSELEY, COL. JOHN
Col. John Moseley, of Jessamine County. Died January 9, 1847, aged 81 years and a few days. He was a native of Virginia and emigrated to Kentucky in 1776.

MOSS, ELLEN
Mrs. Ellen Moss died Monday, Dec. 15, 1913, at her home at Camp Nelson, of infirmities of old age. Mrs. Moss was a native of Garrard County and 82 years old. She was a great sufferer during her four months illness and bore her suffering with fortitude. Mrs. Moss, before her marriage to John Moss, was Miss Ellen Dunn, of Garrard County and had lived in Jessamine County since her marriage. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ben Bell and Mrs. William Leavell; three sons; R. Z. Moss, McKinney Moss and Ray Moss, of Middlesboro, also one sister, Mrs. Thomas Moore. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the late residence, conducted by Rev. W. L. Clark, of Wilmore. Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery.

MOSS, FRANK W.
Frank W. Moss, a Nicholasville civic leader who was the former director of the Nicholasville Chamber of Commerce, died yesterday at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, apparently of a heart attack. He was 79. Moss, of 100 Grogans Ferry Road, was on the board of directors of First National Bank in Nicholasville, and was the former director of the Soil Conservation Service and the Burley Tobacco Growers Association.

MUDD, JAMES A.
James A. Mudd, 78 of Thompson Hood Veteran’s Center in Wilmore, died Saturday Sept. 9, 2000. The son of the late Glenno Daigh Mudd, he was a member of the Catholic Church and president of the resident council at the veterans center. Mr. Mudd was a highly decorated 30 year veteran of the Navy and served in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and was in the Bay of Pigs during the Cuban missile crisis. He is survived by 2 sons, James Mudd of Calif. and Mike Mudd of Cincinnati; 2 brothers, Glenn Mudd of Conn. And John Mudd of Louisville; 2 sisters, Bonnie Kippes and Pat Webb, both of Louisville, 3 grandchildren, Devon, Shana and Tanya Mudd; 1 great grandchild, Terizea Mudd. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Graveside services with full military honors were held on Weds. Sept 13, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with Father William Bush officiating. Contributions may be made to the Ky. Sheriffs Assoc., VFW of the American Legion. Arrangements were handled by Hager and Cundiff Funeral Home.

MULCAHY, JASPER
Jasper “Pappy” Mulcahy, a former Jessamine County coroner, died of a heart attack Thursday at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. He was 68 and lived on Nottaway Drive. Mr. Mulcahy was coroner from 1973 to 1981.

MULLINS, ARNOLD THOMAS
Arnold Thomas Mullins, 73, of Nicholasville, died at his home on Sat. Aug, 19, 2000. The son of the late Thomas and Minnie Hager Mullins, he was an Army veteran and had worked for the railroad for a period of time. Mr. Mullins is survived by 2 sisters, Tina (Charles) Lowery of Nicholasville, and Virginia (Son) McCall of Indianapolis, Ind. Two nieces, Donna Dawson and Karen Colbert and several great nieces and nephews. Private graveside services were held at 2pm at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Nicholson officiating. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc. Hager and Cundiff Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MUNDAY, MRS. LUCRETIA
Mrs. Lucretia Munday died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Curd, at Fresno, Cal., January 19, 1905, aged 90 years. The deceased was well known in Jessamine and Woodford counties, being the aunt of Esq. J. F. Barkley, Mrs. B. M. Arnett and Miss Lillie Barkley, of Nicholasville. She had been in California about six years. Mrs. Orlie Haggan, of Woodford County, aged 91 years, is a sister of Mrs. Munday.

MUSSELMAN, KITTIE SALLEE
Mrs. Kittie Sallee Musselman, 87, died last night at her home on Miller Street. She had been an invalid for nineteen years and for the past eleven years had not been out of her bed. She suffered a stroke of paralysis last week. She was the widow of Captain W. C. Musselman who died in 1887. She was the daughter of the late Jacob and Sidney Hamilton Sallee and was born in Jessamine County, at Keene. She was the mother of the late Dr. S. F. Musselman, state veterinarian, and Mrs. H. W. Shawhan, who died serveral years ago in Asheville, North Carolina. The funeral service will be held Monday afternoon at the residence. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery.
